History:
When Jack Knight came around Bliss' circus, asking some uncomfortable questions about the Cosmic Geek, Bliss had Crusher escort Jack to the Geek's tent. Once there, Crusher and the sideshow freaks attacked Jack. Fortunately, Jack escaped (Starman #7, May 1995). When Jack returned, Crusher attempted to help his master, Bliss. Jack promptly defeated the henchman (Starman #8, June 1995).
Following Bliss' defeat, Crusher wandered without any goal, until he was recruited by Simon Culp (who was wearing the body of The Shade) (Starman #68, August 2000).
Crusher was sent to spy on Freaktown. After being spotted, he murdered Fortuna Crusher later helped Culp's gang subdue Mikaal Tomas when the alien attempted to make contact with Ted Knight (Starman #64, April 2000). Crusher watched as Culp cast a spell on the Black Pirate, causing Opal City to become encased in a shadow-dome (Starman #63, March 2000). Crusher then helped Culp seize control of the entire city. Several of Jack Knight's friends and allies were captured, including Bobo Benetti who was crucified and tortured to death by Crusher. Culp and his henchmen then paraded their prisoners, baiting Jack Knight into a confrontation. Jack held his own until, cut off from the stars, his cosmic rod failed. As Crusher and the villains beat Jack down, the Shade fell to the ground as Culp emerged from within his shadow form (Starman #65, May 2000).
Just as Culp was about to slit Knight's throat, Adam Strange and Black Condor attacked. Their distraction enabled Knight to fight his way free. The three heroes freed Culp's prisoners, and escaped. Culp and his gang remained in custody of the Shade however, and withdrew to prepare for the final rite (Starman #67, July 2000). While Culp prepared, he sent Mist, Grundy, Ragdoll and Crusher to search for the escaped heroes. Instead, Crusher found Bobo Benetti, alive and well. Bobo and Crusher began a brutal hand-to-hand duel. Ultimately, Benetti prevailed (Starman #69, September 2000 - Starman #70, October 2000).
