I need help making a sim skin |

I'm trying to make a skin of Astro Boy from the popular manga series, but he has hair that sticks out in two different directions and it's difficult for me to make it correctly. Here's a link with some pictures of him to show what I mean.

What is the problem? You can't make the hair spikes or you don't know what program to use to make them?

Milkshape 3d ($25 USA) is the only program I know of short of something like 3D Studio Max ($3000? USA) that's capable of doing either the Maxis .skn format or .obj. MS3D comes with a free 30 day trial, then you have to pay if you want to save, or maybe save and export. It's well worth it.

Of course, you'll also need a paint program. May I recommend the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), an open-source item that can give Photoshop a run for its money, once you take the time to get to know it.
